Castle Street Hypnotherapy Lecturer awarded Advanced Diploma

Castle Street Hypnotherapy Lecturer Deborah Pearce has been awarded the Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma (AHD) by the prestigious Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training Centre (CPHT).

The AHD has been accredited by the NCFE as having measurable learning outcomes that have been benchmarked at level 5 (using Ofqual’s Qualification and Accreditation Framework). It is at an equivalent level to a Foundation Degree.

To qualify, practitioners need to have at least 3 years’ experience after gaining their Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD), itself a highly regarded qualification within the profession. They also need to attend post-qualification CPD training courses on subjects as diverse as Hypnotherapy for Childbirth, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Obesity, Psychoneuroimmunology and a range of other related topics.

As well as meeting these criteria, Deborah also participated in the Clifton Practice Research Programme, gathering evidence of clients' progress via specially written software.

Deborah explains, “In addition to the ongoing training and the practical experience of helping hundreds of clients over the years since I first qualified, I also prepared a comprehensive portfolio of written evidence for evaluation by external assessors. It was hard work, but like anything worth doing, was immensely satisfying.  I am delighted that I can now put the letters ‘AHD’ after my name”.

Deborah qualified as a clinical hypnotherapist in 2008 and since then has built a thriving practice.  She co-founded the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and is a qualified supervisor.

In 2015 Deborah became a lecturer for CPHT and established the Guildford CPHT satellite school with fellow hypnotherapist, Sharon Dyke. Together they deliver a 10-month (1 weekend a month) Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma course here at the Castle Street Clinic.

Osteoporosis Screening Service

at Castle Street Clinic - next session Autumn 2017

 ring  01702589690 for an appointment

Karen has been running Osteoporosis Screening Services since 2004.  The company was originally started up in 1995 by an Osteopath in Southend, Essex.

Like every other part of the living body, bone is constantly being rebuilt.  With age, the rate of rebuilding fails to match the rate of breakdown and a steady loss of bone can result in the onset of osteoporosis.  There are no symptoms for osteoporosis and it is often not diagnosed until a fracture actually occurs, hence its title ‘the silent epidemic’.  Osteoporosis can be hereditary and there are also several other risk factors which include early natural or surgical menopause, long term steroid use, anorexia nervosa, alcohol or tobacco abuse, sedentary lifestyle, hyperparathyroidism, lack of sunshine and poor nutrition.

Karen uses an ultrasound machine to determine bone status. The foot is placed into a machine and the soundwaves travel through the heelbone.  Adults of all ages would benefit from an ultrasound scan because the future likelihood of osteoporosis can be predicted and, with treatment or lifestyle changes, can possibly be prevented.  The scan is quick, accurate, painless and non-invasive.  The results are printed in the form of an easy-to-read graph which shows a comparison to age and also a marker set by the World Health Organisation to show osteoporotic fracture risk.  The graph is explained at the time of the appointment and information will be given on diet and exercise.  Advice will also be given on supplements if required.  The cost for the first screening is £49 and the appointment will last approximately half an hour.  Re-screens are recommended which are no more than once a year at a cost of £37.  If the reading is good, a re-screen may not be necessary for 2-3 years and sometimes longer depending on age and lifestyle.

Karen usually holds screening sessions in the Castle Street Clinic in May and October. For further information or to book an appointment, please call Karen on 01702 589690 or e-mail karenlayzell.oss@hotmail.com
